Jennifer Garner, who was born in and brought up within Charleston West Virginia, on April 17, 1973 is from Houston, Texas. William John Garner served as an engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann, her mother was a professor at a nearby university. To follow in the tradition of her father, she obtained a degree in chemical engineering. Since she wanted to be an actor, she moved into New York. The Broadway roles were accompanied by a job in a local eatery. Her first husband Scott Foley met her on the TV show "Felicity," where she appeared as a character. Garner had her first big role in "13 Goin' on 30", a romantic comedy which was widely praised. She was a teen girl trapped inside the body of an adult. Garner chose Gary Winick for the role as director. The two continued working in other films up until Winick died in 2011. The year 2009 was the first time Garner became an ambassador to the arts for Save the Children U.S.A. The job entails the promotion of national literacy, nutrition, and early childhood education. In 2014, Garner has been a member of the board of trustees of this group, promoting early learning for children. She has been visiting families throughout Early Steps to School Success the program created to help parents understand how they can support their children's development - and act as an advocate.
