Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native, born in Houston on the 17th of April, 1972. William John Garner is her father. He was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local college. Wanting to follow his father's path, she graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. But because she wanted to follow her dream of becoming an actress, she moved in New York to try her chances in the film industry. In addition to appearing on Broadway shows, she worked as waitress. Her first husband Scott Foley met her on the TV show "Felicity," where she appeared as a character. She got her big break in the action film "Alias." Garner's debut lead role as a character was the highly acclaimed love story "13 going on thirty." She portrayed an teen who was trapped in the body of the 30-year-old. Garner picked Gary Winick, who directed the film. They worked together in search of other projects following his death. Garner was made an ambassador for artists by Save the Children U.S.A. This role entails national literacy along with nutrition, early childhood education, and many other aspects. In 2014, Garner has been a part of the board of trustees of this organization, pushing for early childhood education. As a member of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) program's ambassador team Garner has visited families on a regular basis to guide them in ways to motivate their children to succeed.
