She was a chef at a New York restaurant and was a part of Broadway productions. The TV show "Felicity," she had a small cameo. (It is on this show where she got to know their husband Scott Foley. Garner got her first big role with "13 going on thirty" the romantic comedy which was widely praised. She played a teenage woman trapped in her body as an adult. Garner chose Gary Winick, who directed the film. She and Winick worked together to find other projects after his passing. Garner began his role as an ambassador for Save the Children U.S.A. in 2009. This role entails national literacy along with nutrition, early childhood education and different aspects. In 2014, Garner has been a participant on the board of trustees of this group, promoting early learning for children. Garner has visited many families as part of Early Steps to School Success the program created to help parents understand how to support their child's development - and act as an advocate.
